Seniors
Seniors are living longer and our senior wellness programs are evolving to support whole person well-being, not simply physical health. Our multifaceted approach to promoting health and wellness for seniors, includes enhancing feelings of purpose and contentment.
According to the National Wellness Institute, wellness is defined as: functioning optimally within your current environment.” Mindfully focusing on wellness in one’s life builds resilience and enables them to thrive amidst life’s challenges.
Our programs address all dimensions of wellness by helping individuals understand what it means to be holistically well. We focus on the whole person, their environment, their lifestyle, and their learning.
The Cognitive Dimension
Engaging in creative pursuits and intellectually stimulating activities is a proven approach to keeping minds alert and interested. Breakfast Club, Technology Workshops, Learning a new language, Writing Contests, and Brain Teasers are examples of how our groups stay mentally fit.
The Social Dimension
According to a 2020 study, social isolation increases an individual’s risk of dementia, heart disease, stroke, anxiety, suicide, and even death. In other words, loneliness is severely harming our senior community.
Studies also show that older adults who suffer from depression have a higher mortality rate than those more satisfied with their lives and relationships. Isolation and loneliness have been linked to chronic health conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes; thus, making social engagement vital to maintaining physical and emotional health. Our programs offer various opportunities for individuals to engage with their peers. Monthly birthday celebrations, day trips, BINGO, Ice Cream Socials, holiday parties, summer cookouts, scrapbooking classes, and game/card night tournaments are examples of how our programs help participants stay socially engaged.
The Emotional/Spiritual Dimension
Meeting the emotional and spiritual needs of older residents is another key to successful aging. Our programs create opportunities for participants to gather spiritually and emotionally
The Community Engagement Dimension
Retirement was once considered a period of rest and relaxation, but it can also be a time for expanded community engagement
The Physical Dimension
Fitness remains an important part of our senior wellness program, as research has shown that regular exercise, even in less-than-recommended amounts, brings health benefits. It’s better to do a little every day than nothing at all. Our fitness programs provide low-impact activities such as Line Dancing, Chair Exercise, Yoga, Dance Parties, and Walking Clubs; designed to give participants various opportunities to move.
The Nutritional Dimension
The goal of living independently is one shared by many people, and nutritional wellness is necessary to achieve this. Partnering with outside organizations to create opportunities for participants to understand and choose healthy foods, with adequate nutrition, is consistently offered.
